How to get to the Fen model Show and where to stay

gETTING TO eLY

Ely is a few miles north of Cambridge and easily reached by train from London, Cambridge, Norwich, Peterborough and beyond.

If you’re flying into the UK, we recommend landing at Stansted Airport. There are regular trains direct to Ely from the airport.

Trains from Stansted take about 45 minutes.

The Maltings

The Maltings is right on the river in the middle of Ely.

Parking

Almost every car park in Ely is free! There are three long-stay (all day) car parks within a couple of minutes’ walk of the Maltings.

Click here to see a map of the car parks in Ely.

The Maltings is marked on the map. The closest car parks to the venue are the Ship Lane, Fisherman’s and Forehill car parks. All of those are long stay or include a long stay section. The Barton Road car park also includes long stay parking and is only ten minutes’ walk from the Maltings.

However, these car parks fill up early. We recommend either arriving early or planning to park further out.

The paid car parks (the Docks and Angel Drove car parks) cost £3 for the whole day. They are about 10 minutes’ walk from the venue.

Street parking is free everywhere, and mostly without time limits.

Accommodation

Ely doesn’t have a lot of hotels, but most are quite good. The closest hotels are the Riverside Inn, Peacocks (also an excellent tea room!) and the Royal Standard. There may also be some AirBNB places around the city.

If you’re having difficulty finding somewhere in Ely to stay, there are a number of hotels next to both of the railway stations in Cambridge.

The train from Cambridge to Ely normally takes 15-20 minutes, and leaves 3-4 times every hour. The train from Cambridge North is slightly quicker, but less frequent.

You may also be able to find hotels, B&Bs, etc. in the small towns surrounding Ely, such as Soham, Littleport, Little Downham, Witchford and Stretham. These are all within 15 minutes’ drive of Ely.

Food and refreshments

The bar in the Maltings itself will be open during the show for light snacks and drinks.
